Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Police Chief Luis A. Guzman announced the arrest of Mr. Lemuel Brown, 35, from Passaic, on December 8th about a shooting incident that took place in the area of 24 Fifth Street.
Authorities charged Mr. Brown with Attempted Murder, First Degree (3 Counts), Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Weapon with an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree (3 Counts); and Certain Person Not to Have Weapons, Second Degree.
According to the complaint, on November 28th, members of the Passaic Police Department responded to the vicinity of 17 5th Street on reports of shots fired where they arrived to find a 68-year old male Passaic resident who sustained a gunshot wound to his leg as he exited a parked vehicle.
Police said based on the investigation, they initially arrested Mr. Marcus Gonzalez, 19, and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree, and Possession of a Firearm with an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree and Aggravated Assault, Fourth Degree.
Authorities identified Mr. Lemuel Brown as another suspect and placed him under arrest.
The sentencing exposure for Mr. Lemuel Brown on First Degree Attempted Murder is 10-20 years New Jersey State Prison with 85% of those terms to be served before parole under the No Early Release Act and five years parole supervision.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this allegation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
