Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Mr. Nicholas G. Torres, 37 of Passaic, on charges of Burglary, Theft, and Possession Of Burglary Tools.
The arrest is the result of a three-month investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
According to officials, in May 2019, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad initiated an investigation into a series of burglaries at real estate and doctors’ offices in Bergen and Middlesex Counties, all of which appeared to share the same modus operandi.
Bergen County officials say as a result of the evidence obtained, Torres was developed as a primary suspect in commercial burglaries in Maywood, Fort Lee, Oradell, Westwood, and Edison.
According to Bergen County officials, on Wednesday, August 7, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office along with detectives from the Oradell, Westwood, and Edison Police Departments, executed a search warrant at the residence, then arrested Torres.
Officials say he was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ on Friday, August 9, 2019.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
He would like to thank the Westwood, Fort Lee, Maywood, Oradell, Edison and Passaic Police Departments for their assistance in this investigation.
