Police announced the arrest of a 13-year-old Passaic girl a accused of throwing a rock at a Clifton police officer's face back in June.
According to police, on June 25th, Clifton officers responded to the 100 block of Highland Avenue for a report of a dispute.
Upon arrival, the officers met with one of the individuals involved in the dispute. The individual in question, a 19-year-old male from Clifton, was uncooperative with responding officers from the onset.
As the individual stood on the door frame of a vehicle that was parked on the street, he refused to cooperate with officers; instead, opting to aggravate the situation by inciting a group of people that were present in the area.
After attempting to diffuse the situation for quite some time with negative results, officers attempted to place the individual into custody.
However, the subject resisted arrest. As the officers were involved in a physical altercation with the subject on the ground, someone within the crowd threw a rock at one of the officers, which struck the officer in the side of the head, injuring the officer.
For over a month police have continued to investigate as well as teamed up with the City of Clifton, along with the Clifton PBA who was offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible for the assault on the officer.
According to police, a tip from a member of the public was received within the last few days that ultimately led to the arrest and charges against the unidentified 13-year-old girl.
Yesterday, the teen was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, inciting a riot, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
