A Passaic County jury convicted a man of murder after an altercation turned deadly at a bar in 2014.
According to a statement released by The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, Andrae Green, 30, of Paterson, was found guilty after a jury trial before the Honorable Scott J. Bennion, J.S.C.
Officials say jury selection commenced on February 27, 2018, and the trial started on March 22, 2018.
According to the statement, the jury returned guilty verdicts on first-degree Murder and second-degree Possession of a Weapon on Tuesday.
The evidence presented to the jury during the trial showed that on the afternoon of September 15, 2014, the defendant was arguing with his wife in front of Moya’s Bar, located at the corner of 10th Avenue and 27th Street Paterson, NJ.
The victim, Antoine Garris, 27, of Paterson, exchanged words with the defendant and an argument between the two ensued. Police said Green left the bar and returned ten minutes later, armed with a handgun.
Police said Green fired seven shots, five of which struck Mr. Garris, causing his death.
The United States Marshal Service arrested Green in Rochester, New York on October 8, 2014.
According to court statements, Green was previously tried on this matter in September of 2017 which resulted in a hung jury on October 6, 2017, before the Honorable Scott J. Bennion, J.S.C.
The defendant is exposed to a minimum term of thirty (30) years New Jersey State Prison before becoming eligible for parole, and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment officials said.
