Authorities temporarily closed West Hudson Park on Thursday afternoon after a magnet fisherman discovered a suspicious object resembling military ordinance in the park’s pond. The discovery, which prompted a swift response from police, fire, and emergency personnel, led to the closure of all park entrances as a precaution.
The incident began around 3:15 p.m. when the individual fishing with a magnet pulled up what appeared to be a piece of military equipment.
Concerned, he alerted the Harrison Police Department, which immediately established a secure perimeter and evacuated the lower part of the park to ensure public safety.
Jersey City Police Department's Bomb Squad was called in to assess the object.
After careful examination, bomb squad officers safely removed the item for further testing, and by evening, authorities declared West Hudson Park safe, allowing it to reopen to the public.
In a statement, Harrison Police reassured residents that the park and surrounding areas were thoroughly checked and deemed secure. While the sight of heavy police and emergency response was concerning to some, officials emphasized that the response was precautionary and that public safety remained their top priority.
