Panhandler Struck by Vehicle on McCarter Highway in Newark

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle in Newark sent a man to the hospital suffering serious injuries.

Police requested EMS on a rush after they found the victim laying on the ground near the intersection of Emmett Street and McCarter Highway at around 10 p.m.

The victim was rushed to an area hospital where he received his treatment.

According to preliminary reports, the victim was struck while panhandling on the busy McCarter Highway when a car struck him at that location.

It is not immediately clear if the vehicle stayed at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
