Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrest of a Palisades man accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old child.
On April 9, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Palisades Park Police Department arrested Israel Duarte after learning that he engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with a four year old female acquaintance. The victim disclosed what had taken place to her mother and her pediatrician, who then contacted authorities. Arrangements were made for the victim to be interviewed by a detective from the Special Victims Unit at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Paramus on April 8. During that interview, the victim provided specific details regarding what had occurred with Duarte. The ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of Duarte. Duarte was charged with one count each of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. His bail was set by the Honorable James J. Guida, J.S.C. at $150,000.00 with no ten percent option, no contact with the victim and the surrender of his passport as a condition of bail.
