Authorities in Somerset County announced the arrest of Elijah Nunnally, 27, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, in relation to an armed robbery that occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, September 30, 2023, in North Plainfield.Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald stated that on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at approximately 4:50 a.m., officers from the North Plainfield Police Department responded to a gas station located on Route 22 for a report of an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, officials say, the gas station attendant reported to officers that an unknown male pulled into the gas station and asked the attendant to fill the gas tank.
Officials said a few minutes later, the man exited his vehicle and pointed a handgun at the attendant, demanding money.
The attendant turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect, officials say.
According to officials, the suspect warned the attendant not to say anything and then fled the area.
Detectives from the North Plainfield Police Department, along with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, responded to investigate the incident.
Prosecutor McDonald stated as a result of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Elijah Nunnally of Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Authorities say that on October 5, 2023, charges of 1st-degree Armed Robbery, 2nd-degree Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose, and 3rd-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon were authorized for Elijah Nunnally.
It was determined that Defendant Nunnally was lodged in Lehigh County Jail on an unrelated matter, officials say. Officials said that on May 30, Defendant Nunnally was extradited from Pennsylvania to New Jersey by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive Task Force.
Defendant Nunnally was transported to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Somerville, New Jersey, where he was processed on charges stemming from the September 30, 2023, armed robbery in North Plainfield, officials stated.
Officials say defendant Nunnally was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing in this matter.
