Detectives from Newark's Major Crimes unit performed overnight investigations into shot fired instances that occurred in Newark's West and South Wards.
Reports of shots fired that rang out in the 40's block of Sunset Avenue sent police to the scene at approximately 1:15 a.m. where officers arrived at the scene and found evidence that a shooting occurred, but after they checked the area, there were no injured victims found.
Police set up a crime scene after locating shell casings in the West Ward community.
It a separate incident, gunfire erupted in the 60's block of Schley Street at approximately 3 a.m. sending police to the scene to investigate.
Units canvassed the area and found at least one vehicle struck by bullets, but after searching the area, there were no injuries.
The motive for both shootings remains under investigation.
