There is an active investigation underway into an incident that occurred at the Newark International Airport that has a woman seriously injured in a hospital in Newark this morning.
Details regarding what exactly happened in the event is pending a thorough investigation, but according to preliminary reports, emergency responders were called to the airports before 2:30 a.m. after receiving reports of an injured person.
Upon their arrival, crews found a severely injured woman who suffered a head injured near an airplane in a waiting area report said.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the plane's propeller struck the woman in the head.
EMS rushed the woman to University Hospital where she is reported to be in critical but stable condition.
Officials have confirmed that the woman is an airport employee but are determining which airline own the plane that's involved in the incident.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
**UPDATE 11:52am Official Statement from Port Authority:** At about 2:20 am at Newark Airport, opposite Terminal A, a United Airlines employee, a 54-year-old woman from Orange NJ was reportedly struck by a moving airplane propeller. Port Authority Police responded and she was removed by ambulance to University Hospital with a serious head injury. There was no disruption to airport operation. The airplane was not on a runway, it was opposite Terminal A maintenance area.
