Operation "Washout Freeze" Nets Over 59 Fugitives in Northern New Jersey

The U.S. Marshals Service has successfully completed a two-week intensive fugitive apprehension initiative, dubbed Operation "Washout Freeze," targeting violent offenders throughout Northern New Jersey.AdThis major enforcement effort led to the arrest of over 59 fugitives in the District of New Jersey, marking a significant stride in law enforcement collaboration and public safety.

U.S. Marshal Juan Mattos Jr. expressed pride in the joint efforts with state, county, local, and federal partners, highlighting the operation as a prime example of successful police partnerships.

The focus of Operation "Washout Freeze" was primarily in Essex County, where law enforcement authorities worked together to locate and apprehend violent criminals.

The initiative's notable achievements include the arrest of 5 homicide suspects, 14 gang members, and individuals wanted on charges related to sex and weapons offenses.

Additionally, during the operation, investigators managed to seize 7 firearms and a quantity of narcotics.AdMarshal Mattos emphasized the commitment to community safety and security, stating that this collaborative operation effectively disrupted criminal activities and enhanced the safety of New Jersey residents.

He extended gratitude to numerous law enforcement agencies for their cooperation, including the Newark Police Department, Essex County Sheriffs, and the New Jersey State Police, among others.

Operation Washout Freeze is part of a longstanding tradition of interagency collaborations, dating back to the 1980s, where the Marshals Service has joined forces with local, state, and federal agencies to track and capture dangerous fugitives.
