Ocean County authorities are looking into the cause of a pedestrian strike that killed one person in Toms River on Tuesday night.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Bay Avenue and Ridge Drive to investigate reports of a crash.
Upon arrival, police say a man was lying on the ground suffering severe injuries when they found two vehicles involved in what appeared to be a collision.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead shortly before midnight.
Police say the victim was outside of his vehicle when struck by a car.
Authorities have not said why the victim was out of the car at this time.
The incident is under investigation.
