The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into a shooting that killed a person in Lakewood on Sunday night.
According to preliminary information, at approximately 7:40 p.m, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out on Coverty Square.
According to police, units arrived at the scene and found an unidentified person suffering multiple gunshot wounds, including bullets in their chest.
According to Lakewood Police officials, the victim was rushed to Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, for treatment but died a short time later.
Officers canvassing the scene found a home struck by bullets, police said.
The motive for the shooting is under an active and ongoing investigation.
