Emergency responders pulled the body of a man from the Passaic River in Newark, believed to have jumped in earlier in the week.
At approximately 10:38 a.m. today, Newark Police responded to a call about a body floating near Red Bull Stadium.
Officers located the body near Riverbank Park at Raymond Boulevard and Brill Street.
Newark Firefighters assisted in retrieving the victim, a male swimmer who had reportedly not surfaced since entering the water at around 4:25 p.m. on June 26.
Initially, it was thought that a second man had jumped in to save the swimmer, but detectives later confirmed that only one person had entered the water.
Multiple searches, including the use of a Zodiac boat, sonar, and divers, were conducted.
Divers located the victim on the same day but reportedly faced difficulties in retrieving his body.
The incident remains under investigation.
