Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and East Orange Police Chief William Robinson have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Sunday night in East Orange.
A total of four males were shot, one fatally. Shortly before 11:30 p.m., East Orange police officers responded to the 200 block of South Clinton Street on reports of shots fired.
Arriving officers located four victims at this location and all of them were transported to University Hospital in Newark. One victim, who has been identified as Ahmad M. Crudup, age 22, of Maplewood, was pronounced dead at 11:54 pm, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.
The other three victims were treated for non-life threatening wounds, according to Fennelly. The identities of the surviving victims are not being disclosed at this time for security reasons, according to Fennelly, who added that the surviving victims are males in their early twenties.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the East Orange Police Department. The investigation is ongoing and active at this time, according to Fennelly.
