A fire that ignited inside a house in Newark's West Ward left one person dead according to initial reports from the scene.
Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Eastern Parkway for reports of a fire that began at around 6:30 p.m.
Arriving crews found the second floor of a two-story house heavily involved in flames.
Firefighters swiftly extinguished the blaze then began to search the structure for injured and trapped occupants.
The body of an unidentified person was pulled from the house at around 7p.m. reports said.
The cause of the fire and the identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
