Authorities in Union County announced that on Friday, December 6, an Old Bridge woman was sentenced to 18 years in state prison for her participation in a fatal shooting that took place in Elizabeth.Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel stated that Cheryle Lugo, 44, was sentenced to 18 years in State Prison for Conspiracy to Commit Murder, directing that she must serve at least 85% of that sentence before being eligible for parole.
Lugo pled guilty to the aforementioned offense on October 15, officials say.
According to Union County authorities, at approximately 11:40 p.m. on October 25, 2019, members of the Elizabeth Police Department responded to the Oakwood Plaza Apartments and found Jamile Robbins, age 19, of Elizabeth, having sustained a gunshot wound.
He was subsequently transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Cho.
Union County officials stated that the investigation concluded that Lugo was the driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal shooting.
“While this sentencing does not bring Mr. Robbins back, we hope it comes as some small solace to his loved ones,” said Union County Prosecutor Daniel.“I commend the dedicated efforts of Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Cho, UCPO Detective Richard Acosta, Elizabeth Police Detective Edward Pinkevicz, and all of the UCPO Homicide Task Force members who worked tirelessly on this case.”
