Old Bridge Police Investigate Boat Explosion at Raritan Marina, Two Injured

Old Bridge Police are investigating a boat explosion that injured two people on Wednesday evening at the Raritan Marina in Laurence Harbor.

According to officials, the explosion occurred at approximately 3:19 p.m.AdOfficers responded to the scene at 1707 Rt. 35, where the blast had launched a 57-year-old Old Bridge resident into the water.

Bystanders quickly pulled the man out, and he was found to have sustained burns to his face and legs. He was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for immediate medical treatment.

A second victim, a 47-year-old South Amboy resident, suffered injuries from glass shards that struck his stomach and arms.

He was transported to Bayshore Medical Center for treatment.

Local emergency responders, including police, fire, and EMS teams, arrived to assist the injured and secure the area.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation, but authorities do not believe it to be suspicious. AdThe marina is currently closed as the investigation continues. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Old Bridge Police Department at (732) 721-5600.
