Old Bridge Man Charged With Aggravated Manslaughter

Old Bridge

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department said a man from Old Bridge charged on May 26 with causing the death of a 19-year-old woman and seriously injuring her passenger has also been charged with aggravated manslaughter.

Mr. Aliaksandr Tsytsenia, 28, of Old Bridge was charged today with one count of aggravated manslaughter in the first degree, and one count of assault by auto in the third degree after it was determined the juvenile passenger suffered serious bodily injury, according to officials.

Reports say that the new charges were filed against Tsytsenia during an investigation by the Old Bridge Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to police, the continuing investigation revealed that on May 25, Tystsenia was intoxicated while driving his Mercedes Benz S550 in a reckless and aggressive manner.

Investigators were able to determine that Tsytsenia was traveling at a high rate of speed when he crossed over the double yellow lines to pass a vehicle operating at or near the speed limit, leading to a head on impact with an oncoming Toyota Corolla, driven by the victim, police say.

He previously was arrested on May 26, with vehicular homicide in the second degree, leaving the scene of an accident in the second degree, assault by auto in the fourth degree, and driving while intoxicated, reports say.

Medical professionals took the victim, Ms. Aliza Akhtar, 19, of Old Bridge to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she was pronounced dead from the injuries she sustained from the crash, officials say. Her passenger, a 15-year old female, was also taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

Reports say that Tsytsenia is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a Detention Hearing schedule for tomorrow in New Brunswick before Superior Court Judge Alberto Rivas.

The investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Police Officer Ronald Atlak of the Old Bridge Police Department at (732) 721-5600 or Detective Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4328.

As in the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Tsytsenia are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
