Three officers sustained non-life threatening injuries while apprehending burglary suspects in Newark's North Ward.
The incident occurred around 1:35 p.m. Friday at the historic Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Broadway.
Police received reports of a burglary in progress at the cemetery's office.
The suspects, described as a male and a female, fled the scene upon noticing the approaching officers. Units began chasing the pair through the community after observing their escape from the graveyard.
Upon apprehending the suspects, the officers swiftly called for medical assistance.
All three injured officers were promptly transported to University Hospital, where they received treatment and are expected to recover.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the burglary and are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
