Authorities in Gloucester County announced that on Thursday, November 28, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Deptford Township Police Department responded to the Fairfield Inn, located at 1160 Hurffville Road, Deptford.According to Gloucester County officials, this occurred after hotel management requested a police response and advised one of the occupants had been acting aggressively.
Preliminary investigation revealed that when officers arrived at the hotel, they spoke with occupant Jeffrey Jaworski, 58, of Sewell, officials stated.
Deptford Police stated that Jaworski opened the door of his hotel room for the officers but quickly slammed it shut and refused to comply with the officers’ request to open the door. He was advised he was under arrest.
After gaining access to the room with management assistance, officers learned that Jaworski jumped from the second-floor window of the room and fled on foot, Gloucester County authorities said.
Officials say officers followed Jaworski on foot into a dense wooded area in the rear of the hotel parking lot, and he told police that he had a gun.
During the encounter, Deptford Township Police Sergeant David Grogan discharged three (3) rounds at Jaworski from his service weapon. Jaworski sustained a single gunshot wound, Deptford Police said.
County officials said Jaworski then moved further into the wooded area, jumped over a chain link fence, fled on foot into traffic on Route 42, and was subsequently taken into custody.Jaworski was transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden to be treated for a non-fatal gunshot wound, Gloucester County officials stated.
County officials said. Jaworski was subsequently charged by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office with being a fugitive from justice and possession of a controlled, dangerous substance.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
