A 28-year-old New York City woman was arrested Tuesday after striking an officer and then leading police on a more than 20-mile chase that started in Union County.
According to authorities, Port Authority police requested assistance from the New Jersey State Police capturing a woman last seen fleeing west on Interstate 78 around 5:30 p.m.
Officials say troopers spotted the woman near milepost 52 in Union Township and ensued a police pursuit through rush hour traffic.
The pursuit came to an end in Bridgewater, where police arrested Angelina Salas, of Jackson Heights, New York, and charged her with eluding and possession of crack cocaine. Port Authority police, however, is expected to file additional charges.
The incident remains under investigation.
No other information was immediately available as to the condition of the officer struck.
