An Atlantic County Grand Jury returned an indictment Tuesday against a New York man for the sexual assault of a housekeeper, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.
Officials said the six Count indictment returned yesterday against Jamel Carlton, 32, of New York, for the violent sexual assault of a Bally’s Hotel and Casino housekeeper.
According to authorities, Carlton has been indicted for First-Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, Second-Degree Sexual Assault, Second-Degree Burglary, Third-Degree Aggravated Assault, Third-Degree Criminal Restraint, and Fourth Degree Obstruction.
Police arrested Carlton in February and detained him until his Feb. 15th pending trial. The case was investigated by the Atlantic City Police Department and Acting Chief Assistant Prosecutor Danielle S. Buckley represents the state.
These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
