NY Man Charged with Robbing, Beating Man in New Brunswick

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Acting Chief Larry Cattano announced today that a New York man has been arrested and charged with severely injuring a man and robbing him after punching and knocking him to the ground.

Lashawn Jones, 41, of the Bronx was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and robbery on September 18, 2015 after he punched and robbed the man, whose identity is being withheld at this time.

The victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he is being treated for head injuries. His condition was not available.

The defendant is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $150,000 bail.

During the investigation, it was determined that Jones approached the victim on Madison Avenue at about 2 a.m. on September 18, 2015, and punched him in the head.

After the man fell to the ground, Jones took the victim’s cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash, and fled.

Police began the investigation after the unconscious victim was discovered on the sidewalk by a passerby at 4:30 a.m.

Jones was apprehended several hours later.

The investigation is active and is continuing.
