NY Driver Accused of Fatally Striking Woman at North Bergen Bus Stop Arrested

A 36-year-old New York man accused of accused of fatally striking a woman with his car as she stood at a North Bergen bus stop is now in custody.

According to police, on Sept. 26, officers responded to the 7600 block of River Road sometime before 7 a.m. for a report of a female pedestrian that was struck by an SUV.

Upon arrival, police found female pedestrian - later identified as Luisa Valdes, 59, of Union City, - had been struck by a Hyundai Santa Fe, reportedly driven by Olvy R. Torres, 36, of New York.

Medics pronounced Valdes dead at the scene at approximately 7 a.m

After police identified the driver a warrant was issued for the arrest of Torres for leaving the scene of a fatal accident resulting in death.

Torres turned himself in to the Hudson County Sheriff’s Operation’s Division around 10:30 this morning.
