NWS: Sizzling Temperatures, Storms Set to Hit Newark, North Jersey Region

As the dog days of August press on, North Jersey residents are waking up to a warm 77 degrees this Wednesday morning in Newark, with the heat only set to rise as the day progresses.Back2SchoolThe National Weather Service predicts temperatures will soar near 90 degrees today amid a week that could see highs ranging from 95 to 100 degrees across the state.

While cooler and less humid days are forecasted to be about a week away, locals must first endure the sweltering heat.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said today's weather includes scattered showers and thunderstorms starting after 3 p.m., with a 60% chance of precipitation. The combination of heat and humidity could push the heat index values as high as 96 degrees.

Winds from the southwest will blow at 7 to 11 mph, adding a slight breeze to the sticky conditions.

As evening falls, NWS forecasters said showers and thunderstorms will likely continue before 8 p.m., followed by isolated showers and thunderstorms until midnight.

The night will gradually clear up, settling at a partly cloudy sky with temperatures dropping to around 75 degrees.
