December greets the Newark and North Jersey region with a mild beginning as residents wake up to comfortable temperatures on the first day of the month.
However, the weather is set to take a turn, with rain expected to move in later in the day.
The early sunshine today might be deceiving, as the National Weather Service predicts a 60% chance of rain likely after 4 pm.
The day will see increasing clouds, with a high near 48 degrees and a gentle southwest wind blowing at 3 to 5 mph. Although precipitation amounts will be less than a tenth of an inch, residents should be prepared for a damp afternoon and evening.
Tonight, rain is likely to continue, mainly before 10 pm, followed by a slight chance of drizzle after 1 am.
Areas of fog are expected to develop after 1 am, adding to the overnight conditions. The temperature will hover around a low of 42 degrees, with calm wind speeds.
The current humidity stands at 67%, with a barometer reading of 30.16 inches.
As December starts, it's a reminder to carry an umbrella and brace for a rainy day in the region.
