As the scorching heat wave persists, Newark and North Jersey residents can expect another day of sweltering temperatures.

Relief from the oppressive conditions is on its way, but we'll have to endure today's high temperatures before Sunday's much-anticipated break.

With humidity at 74%, Meteorologist at The National Weather Service said the air will feel heavy and sticky, making the heat even more uncomfortable.

The south wind blowing at six mph will provide a slight breeze, but NWS forecasters say it won't be enough to alleviate the intense heat.

According to the NWS, today's weather forecast predicts a slight chance of showers early in the day, followed by showers and thunderstorms likely after 8 am. The sky will be partly sunny, but the high temperature will reach around 94 degrees.

However, the heat index values are expected to soar as high as 100, making it feel even hotter than the recorded temperature. In some parts of the region, NWS forecasters said it will feel as hot as 103 degrees, leading to potentially dangerous heat-related concerns.

The west wind will blow at 7 to 11 mph, adding to the heat's discomfort. There's a 60% chance of precipitation, with new rainfall amounts expected to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.

NWS forecasters said thunderstorms may bring higher amounts of rain in certain areas. Everyone needs to take the necessary precautions to stay safe during the heatwave.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wear lightweight and breathable clothing, and seek shade or air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
