Newark and North Jersey residents are waking up to a chilly and gloomy Monday morning, with temperatures recorded at 54 degrees at 4:30 a.m.The day promises to remain mostly cloudy, with persistent fog creating a damp atmosphere across the state.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight chance of showers between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., followed by the possibility of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m.
The morning fog is expected to lift by 11 a.m., but the skies will stay cloudy, and the high will be near 73 degrees. Winds will shift from north at 5 to 8 mph to south in the morning, and there is an overall 30% chance of precipitation.
Tonight, NWS forecasters said the chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue until 8 p.m., tapering off to a slight chance of showers later.
The overnight conditions will remain mostly cloudy, with a low of around 58 degrees. Residents should keep a coat handy, like Sunday, to stay comfortable and enjoy the day despite the dreary weather.
