As winter officially begins, Newark and the North Jersey region residents are waking up to a cold morning, with temperatures hovering just above freezing at 4:30 a.m.
The first day of the season brings cooler weather, but clear skies are in the forecast. According to The National Weather Service, the area will see a sunny day with a high near 41 degrees. However, the wind chill could make it feel as cold as 25 to 35 degrees.
The north wind will be blowing at 7 to 11 mph, with possible gusts reaching as high as 22 mph.
As night falls, the weather will remain mostly clear, but temperatures are expected to drop to a low of around 25 degrees, with a north wind continuing at 6 to 9 mph.
Despite the chilly start to the season, there’s a bit of holiday warmth on the horizon.
Christmas Day is set to bring a significant warmup, with temperatures forecasted to reach a pleasant 50 degrees.
This change offers a cozy respite from the typical winter cold, adding a little extra cheer to the holiday celebrations.
