A 29-year-old Nutley man accused of shooting an off-duty Fairfield police officer in 2010 is expected to also be connected to a shooting outside a Union Township liquor store allegedly with the same weapon.
On Jan. 30, 2010, Preye Roberts allegedly followed the Veneziano as he went to work in his personal vehicle. Once Veneziano arrived to a parking lot near the Fairfield police headquarters, Roberts allegedly shot Veneziano multiple times.
Two weeks after, Roberts was allegedly involved in a shooting outside a Route 22 liquor store in Union Township. He was taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed that the weapon used in the shooting was the same weapon used to shoot Veneziano.
He was ultimately arrested and charged with attempted murder and weapons charges.
Attorneys are scheduled to begin jury selection on March 8.
