Police are reporting the arrest of Mr. Darrel Chapman, 51, of North Plainfield by members of the Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team for a shooting that occurred on November 16th.
According to a statement released by police., he shooting occurred at approximately 6:20 pm, in the 300 block of Avon Avenue where authorities said a male and female were parked in a BMW when a man on foot approached the driver’s side of the car and began to argue with the male driver.
Police said the driver then threatened the pedestrian before shooting him and speeding away from the scene.
Detectives from the Cease Fire Shooting response Team conducted the investigation and determined that Chapman was a suspect in the shooting and secured a warrant for his arrest.
Police said at approximately 8:30 this morning, members of the Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team located and arrested Chapman without incident after conducting a motor vehicle stop near the intersection of Bergen Street and Lehigh Avenue.
Police charged Chapman with possessing a loaded 380 caliber pistol which was recovered inside of the car when he was arrested authorities said.
Police also charged Chapman with aggravated assault, possession of a gun, possession of the gun for unlawful purposes, and certain persons prohibited from possession weapons.
These are accusations. Mr. Chapman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
