Newark is waking up to slightly warmer temperatures on this Thursday morning, but my friends and family should prepare for a steamy, muggy day ahead.
While Tropical Storm Helene churns in the Gulf of Mexico, it is not expected to significantly impact our region.
However, Florida and several neighboring states are bracing for the storm, which is forecasted to make landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Florida's Big Bend this evening.
Back in our area, the National Weather Service predicts a chance of showers before 8 a.m., followed by likely showers and possible thunderstorms between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms may continue throughout the afternoon, with cloudy skies and a high near 76 degrees.
Tonight, the forecast includes a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with cloudy skies and a low of around 65 degrees.
While Helene won't directly affect us, residents will be able to shed their jackets as the weather warms up throughout the day.
