Newark and the North Jersey region avoided the brunt of a fast-moving winter storm, which primarily impacted South Jersey overnight and into Wednesday morning with 3 to 6 inches of snow and freezing rain.As residents wake up to a below-freezing 31 degrees in Newark, the region remains cold, with temperatures not expected to rise much throughout the day.

Newark recorded about 1.6 inches of snowfall, enough to slow down the morning commute and require extra travel time on slick roads.

According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly dry, though there is a slight chance of snow before 10 a.m. and again after 4 p.m..

The high will reach around 38 degrees, but wind chill values will keep conditions feeling much colder, between 25 and 30 degrees.

Another storm system is expected to move through the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning, though it won't bring much additional snowfall.

Instead, parts of the region may experience a mix of freezing rain and rain, creating the potential for icy road conditions during the morning commute.

Residents are advised to stay cautious on the roads and prepare for changing weather conditions.
