As February begins and Black History Month is officially underway, residents in Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to chilly conditions.
At 38 degrees this morning, temperatures are at their peak for the day, but they won’t last long at all.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will steadily drop throughout the afternoon, dipping below freezing by 5 p.m.
A blustery northwest wind will make it feel even colder, with wind chill values ranging between 15 and 25 degrees.
Despite the bright sunshine expected today, conditions will remain cold and breezy, with gusts reaching up to 31 mph.
By tonight, skies will stay mostly clear, but temperatures will plunge to a frigid 16 degrees.
While today’s weather will require extra layers, calmer conditions are expected as the weekend progresses. Stay warm and enjoy the first day of Black History Month in New Jersey!
