The 48-year-old North Arlington man charged with the death of an Elizabeth dockworker entered a not guilty plea today.
According to authorities, Victor Belo was under the influence of alcohol when he struck and killed a fellow dockworker, Judy Jones, 49, of Newark, on August 7, as they worked at a shipping terminal in Elizabeth. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.
Victor Belo turned himself in at the Union County Prosecutor's office, and was later freed after posting 10 percent of $75,000 bail in cash.
Belo's next court date is scheduled for Oct. 14, before Superior Court Judge Frederic Daniel.
Belo faces charges of death by auto and DWI.
His attorney, Anthony Iacullo said, "We are confident that once we receive (the evidence against him), he will be exonerated of the charge."
