No Jail for Mercer County Corrections Officer Accused of Sexual Assault of Inmates

Trenton

A Mercer County corrections officer accused of forcing two female inmates to perform oral sex on repeated occasions between Oct. 1 and Nov, 12, 2013 at the Mercer County jail, will face no jail time.

John Ledbetter -a 23-year-veteran corrections officer - will receive three years supervised release on charges of official misconduct, sexual assault and criminal sexual contact after an agreement reached Friday in Mercer County Superior Court.

Ledbetter must also perform 40 hours of community service, resign position as county corrections officer and will not be allowed to be employed by Mercer County.

The agreement allows Ledbetter to receive his county pension and does not bar him from seeking employment with a state agency or another county, prosecutors said.

Ledbetter was suspended without pay since February 2014.
