A couple was taken into custody this morning after they reportedly attacked the man’s former girlfriend and abducted the couple's 3-month-old baby in Newark.
A 24-year-old woman called police after the father of her baby and his current girlfriend allegedly assaulted her before making off with their 3-month-old baby from the area of Stuyvesant and South Orange avenues around 2:30 a.m. today
The injured victim declined medical treatment, according to police.
Police searched the area for a newer model Honda Civic with NJ plates in which the couple was last seen in.
The child and the couple were located more than eight hours later on Amhurst Avenue. The child was unharmed.
The duo is now facing kidnapping, weapons offenses and assault charges.
It is unclear at this time why authorities did not issue an Amber Alert for the child.
