NJ State Police officials are looking into the cause of a van wreck that injured nearly a dozen people on I-287 in Riverdale Boro Tuesday.
According to NJ State Police Spokesman Sgt. Charles Marchan, the collision happened around 2:58 a.m. at the Exit 53 ramp.
The incident occurred as a Ford Transit van was heading north on the ramp. Sergeant Marchan told RLS Media that the initial findings suggest that the van veered off the road, hit a curb, crossed a grass median, and went airborne.
The van continued its course, crossing the entrance ramp and guardrail before colliding with multiple trees and descending an embankment.
The crash inflicted significant injuries on the van's driver, Mr. Aron Dirnfeld, 20, from New Square, NY, as well as the 15-year-old front passenger from Monsey, NY.
Fortunately, the eight other passengers emerged with minor injuries. Sergeant Marchan said the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and at this time, no further details are available.
Authorities are working diligently to understand the circumstances that led to this incident and to determine the factors behind the van's loss of control.
