A North Jersey Coast Line train struck and fatally injured a trespasser at Elizabeth Station during the evening rush hour on Wednesday, leading to temporary rail service suspensions on multiple NJ Transit lines.

According to NJ Transit officials, train 3363, which departed New York Penn Station at 5:01 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Bay Head at 7:07 p.m., was involved in the incident at approximately 5:31 p.m.

None of the 1,100 passengers or crew members on board were injured.

However, the fatal incident led to significant travel disruptions, with Northeast Corridor service suspended between Trenton and Newark and North Jersey Coast Line service halted between Newark and Long Branch.

After a temporary suspension, service has since resumed on both lines.

The New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the trespasser’s presence on the tracks. Officials have not yet released further details on the victim’s identity.
