NJ Transit Train Fatally Strikes Woman on Tracks in Bergen County

Authorities are investigating a fatal train incident that occurred in the early hours of the morning near Rutherford Station. According to transit officials, an adult female pedestrian was struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Monday.  

The incident involved Port Jervis Line Train 41, which had departed Hoboken at 12:39 a.m. and was en route to its final destination in Port Jervis, New York, with an expected arrival time of 3:15 a.m. 

Transit officials said the train fatally struck the pedestrian just west of Rutherford Station, near Paterson Avenue.  

None of the 22 passengers or crew members on board reported injuries as a result of the collision. 

Train service in both directions was initially suspended following the incident but has since resumed normal operations.  

New Jersey Transit Police have taken the lead in the investigation, working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatality. 

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim or details regarding how the pedestrian came to be on the tracks.
