Authorities are investigating why a man drove onto the tracks in Emerson resulting in the collision.
The man, only described as in his 80's, apparently drove onto the tracks from 1st Avenue in Westwood. The Hoboken-bound train struck vehicle that ultimately killed the man.
The man was pronounced dead at 7:40 a.m.
The collision remains under investigation. It is unclear at this time why the man drove unto the track.
