Last week, the Northeast’s premier dairy co-operative, Cabot Creamery Co-operative, judged entries and awarded prizes to students in grades 6-9 from throughout the greater NYC metropolitan area for the 2019 Power Up Your Body Challenge – the biggest health campaign for adolescents, by adolescents.
Judging took place at the Liberty Science Center, and students in grades 6-9 won awards for building their own health campaigns.
Among the judges were Cabot Farmer Ambassador Allison Akins, who tours the nation on behalf of Cabot’s dairy farmers as a member of the co-operative’s Gratitude Touring Team, spreading goodwill and supporting local community initiatives.
Students from schools in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Staten Island, Queens, and Rockland and Westchester Counties (NY), as well as Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, and Sussex Counties (NJ), entered the event.
The winning projects helped to convey the messages of how to avoid foods with excess sugar, a website that demonstrates how to build healthy exercise habits, and a comic strip that helps kids understand how nutrition aids in adolescent growth. Four of the five winning teams are local to Jersey City.
The Challenge was presented by American Dairy Association North East and sponsored by ShopRite Inserra Supermarkets, Liberty Science Center, NFL Fuel Up To Play 60, Health Barn, and American Bone Health.
