NJ State Police Seek Public's Help in Solving 49-Year-Old Murder Mystery

New Jersey State Police officials continue to seek the public's help to identify a woman who was found murdered in a wooded area near the Garden State Parkway in Atlantic County 49 years ago today.

Several artist-rendered facial reconstructions for the body were discovered in woods off Jim Leeds Road near milepost #42 of the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township on December 6, 1971.

Police have reason to believe that the unidentified girl was an only child between the age of12-18 years old, but likely on the younger side closer to 12-14.

According to published reports, she had been deceased for several months before the discovery of her body.

State Police officials said the girl was 5'3" 117 lbs, and her hair had shades of blonde.

Police say the 'Jane Doe' was found wearing a blue polo shirt, bell-bottom slacks with multiple colored vertical stripes, and brown leather sandals.

She also wore a wide leather band bracelet with small brass eyelets all around the band. Attached to the bracelet through some of the eyelets was a small watch. According to police, the watch did not appear to have been originally attached to the leather band but secured separately.

According to police, inside her pants was a key to a local motel along the Garden State Parkway.
