NJ State Police officials are investigating a car fire that killed a person inside the vehicle on a highway in Passaic County on Tuesday night.
According to preliminary reports, police and firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle fire in the northbound lanes of I-287 near mile marker 55.9 in Wanaque, around 10:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, police say emergency responders found a fully involved vehicle with possible trapped occupants inside.
Firefighters were able to swiftly extinguish the blaze then conduct a search of the vehicle where they found the body of an unidentified person.
Police say circumstances surrounding the fatal incident is in its early stages of the investigation.
