Somerset County authorities arrested Ms. Yessica Gonzalez, 44, of Ewing, who they said is connected to several acts of Theft by deception occurring from 2019 to 2022 in Montgomery Township.
According to Prosecutor McDonald, in August of 2022, the Special Investigations Unit of the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office was notified of a report of a suspected theft by deception on the property manager's part of an apartment complex located in Montgomery Township.
Prosecutor John McDonald said detectives from the Special Investigation Unit conducted an investigation.
The investigation determined that for over two years, property manager Gonzalez rented out apartments in the complex and collected monthly rent and security deposits from tenants she kept for herself.
Prosecutor John McDonald said Gonzalez also forged the owner of the apartment complex's name on lease documents without the owner's consent or knowledge.
On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, a Special Investigations Unit at the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office detectives took Gonzalez into custody after she surrendered to authorities without incident.
Officials charged her with 2nd-degree Theft (over $75,000) by Deception and 4th-degree Forgery.
Police lodged Gonzalez in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor McDonald, Chief Fodor, and Police Captain/Director Bet request anyone with information relating to this incident to contact the Somerset County Prosecutors Office Special Investigations Unit at (908) 231-7100 or the Montgomery Township Police Department at (908) 359-3222
