A Manahawkin man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2016 murder and sexual assault of a 23-month-old child, according to a statement from Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Gloucester City Police Chief Brian Morrell.
Michael Disporto, 30, was convicted in October 2023 of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual assault in connection with the death of the child, identified as A.S.
The Camden County Superior Court delivered the sentence on October 10, 2024, condemning Disporto to life in prison without parole.
In addition, he received a consecutive 40-year sentence under the No Early Release Act for aggravated sexual assault.
The tragic incident occurred on July 3, 2016, when Gloucester City police responded to a call about an unresponsive child.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the child was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where medical staff discovered she had suffered extensive injuries, including signs of sexual abuse.
Despite efforts to save her, A.S. was pronounced dead on July 5, 2016. Her death was ruled a homicide, with the cause being blunt force trauma.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Disporto’s sentencing brings closure to a case that has shaken the community for years.
The life sentence ensures that Disporto will remain behind bars for the remainder of his life.
