Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on Monday, January 27, Victor Martinez, 54, of Hammonton, pleaded guilty to multiple indictments to crimes, including first-degree unlawful possession of a handgun by a person previously convicted under the No Early Release Act, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, fourth-degree obstructing the administration of law, and third-degree unlawful possession of narcotics.

AdUnder the terms of his plea agreement, Martinez is expected to be sentenced to an aggregate term of 10 years in New Jersey State Prison with five years of parole ineligibility under the Graves Act, ACPO officials stated.

According to Atlantic County officials, on February 29, 2024, members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Egg Harbor City Police Department were conducting a narcotics investigation on London Avenue in Egg Harbor City.

Martinez was stopped and searched pursuant to a judicially authorized warrant. Inside a backpack that Martinez was carrying, police located a Glock 9mm handgun with two extended magazines along with small quantities of crack cocaine and fentanyl, ACPO authorities said.

Martinez did not have a permit to carry or possess the Glock 9mm, and a review of his criminal history revealed a prior conviction for second-degree robbery, which is a crime enumerated in New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, County officials say.

By virtue of that conviction, County officials said, Martinez was legally ineligible to own or carry a handgun.

According to Atlantic County authorities, during his guilty plea, Martinez also admitted that prior to being arrested and found with the Glock handgun, he had been involved in two separate incidents in Egg Harbor City where he brandished a pocketknife during a verbal argument and he obstructed police officers who were conducting a drug-related investigation.AdAfter Martinez pleaded guilty, he was released over the State’s objection pending sentencing by the Honorable Bernard E. DeLury, Jr., P.J.Cr. County officials say sentencing is scheduled for March 2025.
