NJ Man Gets Life in Prison for Multiple Felonies

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a Riverton man received a sentence of life in prison for multiple felonies.

Jose Cortes, 41, was found guilty on March 23, 2017 of two counts of first degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder, one count of first degree Leader of a Narcotics Trafficking Network, one count of first degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, as well as one count of second degree Unlawful Possession of Weapons and Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon by a jury.

The defendant conspired to murder two individuals, Jose Vega and Chris Humphrey, who were both found deceased in Camden on December 22, 2013.

Cortes will serve an aggregate sentence of life imprisonment, with a thirty-five-year parole disqualifier, as well as a consecutive seven-year sentence on a Certain Persons offense, in State prison.

The sentence was imposed on Friday, June 2, 2017 by Superior Court Judge Michelle Fox, J.S.C..
