NJ Man Convicted of Attempted Murder in 2022 Shooting

Henry Hutchinson, a 40-year-old Trenton resident, has been found guilty of first-degree attempted murder and several related charges for a 2022 shooting that left a victim paralyzed, according to Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton.AdA jury convicted Hutchinson on September 25, on all counts, including possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun.

The incident occurred on July 16, 2022, around 11 p.m. on Chambers Street in Trenton. Hutchinson shot a 38-year-old man twice with a handgun.

After the victim fell to the ground, Hutchinson stood over him and fired a third shot, leaving the man permanently paralyzed. Hutchinson was apprehended two days later, on July 18, 2022, by Trenton police, who recovered the Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver used in the crime.

The case is a stark reminder of the ongoing issues of gun violence in the community.

Acting Prosecutor Hilton praised the efforts of law enforcement and the prosecution team for securing a conviction that will keep a dangerous individual off the streets.AdHutchinson now faces a lengthy prison sentence for his actions, bringing some measure of justice to the victim and his family, who continue to deal with the devastating consequences of the shooting. Sentencing will take place in the coming weeks, where Hutchinson could face decades behind bars for his crimes.
